25 years of Family Reading Night

  • Washington Middle School 401 East 14th Street Washington, MO, 63090 United States (map)

Family Reading Night is turning 25, and we're celebrating in a BIG way!

The Community Literacy Foundation, in partnership with Neighborhood Reads, the School District of Washington, Washington Public Library, Friends of the Library, and the Washington Optimist Club, will host Family Reading Night on Friday, March 7, at Washington Middle School.

The program kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with three-time Caldecott Honoree and special guest author and illustrator Marla Frazee! Marla has written and/or illustrated more than two dozen picture books and two chapter book series! Her book, Boss Baby, was made into a DreamWorks Animation film! Plan to meet Marla with your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, neighbor kids- even just yourself!

Family Reading Night will feature stories in reading rooms, activity tables hosted by area school PTO organizations, refreshments and book giveaways. The Washington Police Department will share a skit at the end of the evening based on a book.

Families who read together the week before Family Reading Night can bring their reading logs for a chance to win prizes.

Additional support is provided by the Washington High School Football Team, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, and Washington NEA.

We challenge your family to read together for 15 mins every day in the week leading up to Family Reading Night. Download the reading log below, document your reading times and bring the log to the big event on Friday, March 7, for a chance to win prizes!
